Dr. M. Aslam Alam
Dr. M. Aslam Alam is the Chairman of the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA) of Bangladesh. He also served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bangladesh Insurance Academy from 2012 to 2016. He also served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sonali Bank (UK) Limited from 2013-2018.
Dr. Alam started his career with the Bangladesh Administrative Service. After serving the republic for 36 years, he retired as a Senior Secretary to the Government. He has significantly contributed to the developmental public policy making in his role as the Secretary, Financial Institutions Division (FID) of the Ministry of Finance, Government of Bangladesh and the Secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief (MoDMR) as well as the Director General of the Department of Land Records and Surveys and the Director General-3 at the Chief Adviser’s Office. He also worked on lien with the UNDP/UNOPS for four years as the Senior Program Manager of the Comprehensive Disaster Management Programme (CDMP). He also has an extensive rural development background.
Dr. Alam obtained his PhD in Social Science and Policy from the University of New South Wales at Sydney, Australia. Prior to doing PhD, he did an MA in International Relations with specialization in international economic cooperation at the International University of Japan (IUJ). He originally graduated from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. He obtained his M. Com and B. Com (honours) degrees in Accounting. He has undergone a number of professional training at home and abroad including executive education program at the Harvard Kennedy School. He has presented numerous papers at various academic and professional conferences/ seminars/ workshops at home and abroad.
